If your dog is overly attached to you or your family members they will tend to show anxiety whenever there is forced separation.  This manifests in extreme anxious or distressed behavior such as destructive behavior, house soiling, frequent barking or whining or extreme inactivity.

Dogs with this problem try to remain close to their owners and follow the owner all over the house and display signs of anxiety whenever separation is imminent.  (Imagine the behavior a child very attached to his mother goes through when there is impending separation and you see the similarities.)

In a dog’s case it may show excess salivation, panting, barking, vomiting or defecating, may refuse to eat or become withdrawn.  These symptoms may disappear magically the moment the owner reappears and recur within a half hour after separation.

Treatment consists of retraining your dog.  This can involve a certain amount of time and effort, but will be very rewarding.  More details can be obtained here.
