Every dog will need a place which he can identify as his own to sleep. It can be in the form of a simple space, or a kennel or a fenced up area. There are plenty of options available, depending on your budget.
A couple of things need to be considered before you choose your option. How big is your dog? Big dogs need a lot more space. If you are going to fence up the area the dog stays, you need to provide some space not just for the sleeping but also for stretching its legs somewhat.
If you have decided on a dog house, you will need to choose from the multitude of designs, shapes and sizes available. Dog houses can be made of plastic or wood materials. Plastic is easier to clean, and some types can even be painted. Wood houses look more natural and green. There should be adequate space in the dog house for water and food. Obviously the house will need to be big enough for the dog to lie down in comfortably.
The house should be in some shade and not exposed too much to sun and rain. If you live in temperate climates, there is a problem of insulation against the cold and the cold winds or snow. The floor should be slightly raised to prevent flood water from the rain from entering.
Taking adequate care in your choice of dog house will allow the dog to spend its days usefully and comfortably.
